Injectables and Fillers

BOTOX® is a very well-known treatment to primarily aid the reduction of facial wrinkles. It is possible to use BOTOX® on other areas of the body, but this is done under consultation with the Specialist.

How does it work?

A few drops of Botox are injected into the muscle that creates a wrinkle. When the Botox is injected into a muscle, it blocks the nerve impulse from reaching that area and as a result the muscle weakens. As the muscle weakens the skin overlying the muscle relaxes and the wrinkles in the skin soften and disappear. This takes up to 14 days to take effect!

Where can Botox be injected?

The most common areas are in the frown lines between eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, “crow’s feet” or smile lines at corner of eyes and other areas by individual consultation.

Does it hurt?

When injected, there is a minor sting for a few seconds. Once the injection is complete, there is usually no discomfort.

How long does it last?

The effect normally lasts between 3 & 5 months. After several treatments, the effects may begin to last longer, sometimes as long as 6 – 9 months.

How safe is Botox?

Botox has been used safely and successfully for many years to treat muscular twitches and facial paralysis. Wrinkle treatment uses only a tiny amount of Botox with no major side effects.

SMC – BOTOX® FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING

This treatment can be given to both men and women in the armpits, hands, forehead and scalp. This will last for 6 – 9 months, after which there will be a gradual return to the original condition.

Dermal Fillers

How do they work?

The product is injected into the area of skin a few millimetres under the site of the wrinkle. This produces a lifting effect smoothing out the wrinkle at the surface of the skin. The effect is immediate.

Where are they used?

The main areas are the crease from the nose to the corner of the mouth and from the corner of the mouth to the side of the chin. They are also used for Lip Contouring/Enhancement and for “Smokers Lines” (The vertical lines above the top lip). Other areas are available by individual consultation.

What are they made of and are they safe?

All dermal fillers are biodegradable, non-animal hyaluronic acid, which is a substance found naturally in the body. This type of acid has been used for many years and has an excellent record. There is, as with any injectable procedure, a small risk of slight bruising or swelling. There is also a slight risk of infection at the site of injection, although this is very rare as the strictest sterile procedures are used.
