Eyelid Surgery – Blepharoplasty
What is Blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess, saggy skin from the upper and/or lower eyelids.
Who needs blepharoplasty?
With increasing age, you may develop heavy upper eyelids, double eyelids or bags under your eyes, these unpleasant, natural age-related changes can make you look older and more tired than you feel. Blepharoplasty not only eliminates any obstruction, expanding your visual field, it also gives the eyes a more youthful look, boosting your confidence. It is one of the safest and most reliable cosmetic surgical procedures, with a very high satisfaction rate.
What does the procedure consist of?
During this eyelid procedure, the surgeon removes unwanted skin, fat and/or muscle through a skin incision situated in the natural skin fold of the eyelid skin. The surgeon then closes up the incision, this will remain in the skin fold and is hardly visible.
It is possible to combine the surgery with other cosmetic treatments at the same time to enhance the youthful appearance of the face.
Is the procedure painful?
No. The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic. It can also be performed under sedation or general anaesthestic.
What are the risks?
The risks to be considered include a risk of infection, possible significant bruising, the risk of the scar thickening and becoming more visible and a theoretical risk of blurry vision, double vision and dry eye.
Further information about the procedure:
It is a day case procedure. The surgery takes around 2 hours depending on the areas treated, Stitches are removed 7 days after surgery. Eyelid swelling gradually settles and you will start looking and feeling better.
How long does it take to recover?
Recovery may take a few weeks. You are advised to keep daily activity to a minimum for 5 days, and you are recommended to take a week or two off work. You will need to keep your head elevated for several days and use an icepack to reduce swelling.
Who carries out this procedure?
At the Specialist Medical Clinic, our Ophthalmic Surgeon with a specialist interest in Blepharoplasty, Dr Keti Pachkoria, carries out this procedure under local anaesthetic with excellent results, as documented by some examples below of the thanks received from her patients.
“I just want to thank Keti so much. I had an upper lid blepharoplasty almost two weeks ago and the difference is already amazing. The surgery was painless and Keti and her assistant Laura talks to me the whole time putting me totally at ease, I went home afterwards and feel no pain at all. If anyone is thinking of this I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I have ever done! Before I suffered awful headaches as I was permanently raising my eyebrows so that my eyelids stayed away from my eyes… now I don’t have to and the headaches are gone.
Thank you so much… you have actually changed my life.”
“Fantastic surgeon Dr K Pachkoria, young with modern and up to date ideas, did some very difficult surgery on my husband’s upper and lower eyelids, it healed very well and very quickly, the before and after care was excellent, I would highly recommend Dr Pachkoria to everyone who needs eye and specialised treatment.”
“Dr Pachkoria operated on my eyelids in September 2022 and I can highly recommend her. The whole procedure took 2 hours and 15 minutes and was painless. She was very meticulous, explained everything. The results are exactly what I expected. Three months later the scar is hardly visible (still healing). I am almost 60. My advice is to do it sooner rather than later. The younger you are the better the healing process and you can enjoy the results much longer.”
